🌙☀️ Flight of Day & Night Mat

Some handmade pieces are simply a project. Others become a beast.

The Flight of Day & Night Mat is one of those pieces.

This large statement mat measures approximately 22 x 22 inches and features an intricate embroidered design representing the meeting and movement of day and night.

The central design is embroidered onto orange canvas, surrounded by a striking red satin border, with a black backing completing the piece. I've also added a layer of wadding between the fabrics, giving the mat a little more body and substance.

This isn't a small altar mat designed to disappear beneath your tools — this one is meant to be noticed.

✨ A Mat for Day & Night

Day and night are natural opposites, but they are also part of the same cycle.

Light and darkness, activity and rest, beginnings and endings — each has its place.

The changing relationship between the two can be a beautiful reminder of balance, cycles, transition and the constant movement of nature.

Whether you use it as an altar mat, a ritual surface, a meditation space or simply display it as a piece of textile artwork, the design can be interpreted in your own way.

As with much of magical symbolism, there isn't one single "correct" meaning. What matters is what the imagery represents to you and how you choose to work with it.

🧵 Handmade & Embroidered

This mat contains a large amount of machine embroidery, carefully stitched onto orange canvas before being constructed with the surrounding layers.

The finished piece consists of:

• Orange canvas – the main embroidered panel
• Red satin – decorative border
• Wadding – added between the fabric layers for extra body
• Black fabric – backing

The combination of the bright orange, deep red and black gives this mat a dramatic appearance, while the embroidery provides the detail that makes it a true statement piece.

And yes... this one took a while.

From embroidery to cutting, layering, sewing and finishing, this was a serious project and one of the largest embroidered mats I've made.

If using candles as part of an altar or ritual display, please ensure they are placed in a suitable, stable and heat-resistant holder and kept safely away from the fabric.

Spot clean where possible and allow to dry naturally.
