Midnight Magic Tarot

Enter the enchanting world of the forest after dark with Midnight Magic Tarot: A Tarot Deck of Mushrooms, created and illustrated by Sara Richard.

This unique tarot deck combines the familiar symbolism of the Rider-Waite-Smith tradition with the fascinating world of mushrooms and fungi. Across all 78 cards, traditional tarot archetypes are reimagined through carefully chosen fungi, creating a deck that is both recognisable to tarot readers and wonderfully different.

From the Fly Agaric as the Emperor to the colourful Chicken of the Woods as the Fool, the mushrooms featured throughout the deck aren't simply decorative. Each has been selected for qualities, symbolism or appearance that complement the traditional meaning of its tarot card.

What's in the deck?

The set contains:

• 🔮 78 tarot cards
• 🌙 22 Major Arcana
• 🃏 56 Minor Arcana
• 🍄 Four traditional suits: Cups, Swords, Wands and Pentacles
• 📖 143-page illustrated guidebook
• ✨ Reversible card backs
• 🌿 Traditional Rider-Waite-inspired tarot structure

The accompanying guidebook explores both the tarot meaning and the mushroom featured on each card, with upright and reversed interpretations and practical guidance for the reader. The Major Arcana receive particularly detailed treatment, while the Minor Arcana introduce the suits and their elemental associations before exploring each individual card.

Mushrooms, magic and the natural world

What makes Midnight Magic Tarot particularly distinctive is the way it connects tarot symbolism with mycology and the natural world.

The artwork has an atmospheric, almost gothic quality, with mushrooms appearing in ethereal forest scenes and traditional tarot archetypes. The deck explores the hidden beauty and mysterious power of fungi while encouraging readers to look beneath the surface of familiar tarot imagery.

It makes an especially interesting choice for anyone who feels drawn to nature magic, forest symbolism, witchcraft and the mysterious world of mushrooms.

How can you use it?

The deck can be used for traditional tarot readings, daily card pulls, meditation, journalling and intuitive exploration.

Because it follows the familiar 78-card Rider-Waite structure, it can be used with traditional tarot spreads while giving experienced readers a fresh layer of symbolism to explore.

The mushroom imagery also makes it an intriguing deck for nature-based practice, shadow work and connecting with the cycles of growth, decay and renewal found in the natural world.
